How do you know if your database is clean?

A new Global Data Management Study published by Experian (February 2016) reported 90% of businesses feel they are missing a sophisticated approach to managing data effectively. 79% surveyed stated they see customer data driving most sales decisions by 2020.

The survey analyzed feedback from 1,400 businesses across eight countries and determined that on average, about 25% of customer data is inaccurate.

Does your database have some of the most common errors found?

It’s easy to muddy up your list with misspelled names or titles, incomplete addresses and out of date information. And over 90% ranked record duplication as the main problem in their data base.

According to Demand lab, this incorrect data is costing businesses 550 hours per year, or the equivalent of about $32,000 per salesperson per year!

Boris Huard of Experian said businesses could increase sales by almost a third (29%) if their customer data was completely accurate. Basically, a bit of data hygiene is needed. If your database is crammed with garbage, it’s easy to overlook the good stuff and harder to focus on improving what you have. “Missing information may mean your new whitepaper isn’t reaching qualified prospects.”

Consider a marketing expert if you’ve been struggling with data management. The increase in data volume is on the rise within organizations, many claiming it is affected in part by social media. They report their social media use has grown by 81% in the last 12 months.

This is a great statistic if you understand social media and how to use it to produce revenue. But it can be an evil entity if you aren’t managing it correctly, and untrue or unfavorable comments or feedback is left.

A recent study by Go Fish Digital said 1 negative result about your company or product can cause your company to lose 22% of potential customers…while 4 negative results can cause you to lose 70% of potential customers.

This, according to the study, is because 67.7% of consumers report that their purchasing decisions are influenced by the reviews they read online.
